celebration - the 31th Kadayawan Festival in Davao City, Philippines. The
festival is annually held in the third week of August, displaying
the indigenous peoples' rituals of celebration after an abundant harvest and
the blooming of many of the region’s exotic flowers.
The term “Kadayawan” is actually derivative from a local
dialect, “Madayaw” which means “good, beautiful, superior, valuable, or profitable”.
“Madayaw” is also a warm and friendly greeting you could hear as you make your
way around the city to participate in the festivities.

This festival is so popular among tourists from local and
abroad gathering together to witness colorful float parades and dancers
performing tirelessly under the sun dancing in tune to their tribe’s song.
This festival is also a perfect time to taste the region’s
delicious fruits and harvests like durian, lanzones, mangosteen, rambutan and
marang.
Kadayawan Festival highlighted activity is Pamulak Kadayawan
a float parade featuring Davao’s abundant harvest of flowers and fruits. The
second highlighted activity is the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan a competition of
various tribe’s participants showcasing choreographed dance inspired by
Mindanao's indigenous customs.
